Poetry: Write in the Middle of Class
A Writing Workshop
For Teachers K-8

Author and poet Judy Young wants teachers to feel comfortable about using poetry in the classroom and confident in helping students write poetry! Participants will learn how fun and easy it is to get their students' creative juices flowing as they actively take the role of their students in a variety of poetry writing activities that can be immediately used in the classroom. Teachers also learn how to incorporate poetry into all subject areas on a regular basis and how poetry can support the curriculum cross-categorically.

Full workshop: 3-4 hours long, depending on the needs of your school or event.
Mini Workshops: 60-90 minute mini-workshops are also available in three focus areas:

  1. Non-rhyming structures (i.e. acrostics, cinquains, doublets, haiku, etc.)
  2. Free verse
  3. Rhyming verse

This program is excellent for schools' professional development programs, educational conferences or pre-conference workshops and college level teacher education programs. Often, schools schedule a mini-workshop for teachers in conjunction with a full day of student presentations. Schools within 50 miles of Springfield, MO, may choose to schedule a mini-workshops series, with one mini-workshop a week for three consecutive weeks.
